About Converting PNG to TIFF

TIFF is the format that print shops, scanning departments and digital archives standardised on decades ago, and it has stayed there because it is predictable rather than clever. This converter writes uncompressed RGB TIFF: every pixel is stored as literal red, green and blue values with no compression scheme in between, which is exactly what prepress software and long-term preservation policies tend to require.

Two consequences follow directly from that. The file will be considerably larger than your PNG, because PNG compresses and this output does not. And because PNG is itself lossless, no pixel detail is lost anywhere in the process — what you get is the same image, stored in the plainest possible way.

Common use cases

  • Supplying artwork to a commercial printer or prepress workflow that specifies TIFF
  • Depositing images into a digital archive or institutional repository with a TIFF preservation policy
  • Feeding scanning, OCR or document management software that only ingests TIFF
  • Preparing imagery for publishing and layout applications that prefer TIFF over PNG
  • Meeting a government, library or legal submission requirement that names TIFF explicitly

Tips for best results

  • The output is uncompressed, so expect a substantially larger file than the PNG you started with. That is the intended behaviour for print and archival use, not a fault.
  • Transparency is flattened onto a white background, because this TIFF output is RGB with no alpha channel. If you need a different backdrop, composite it yourself before converting.
  • No pixel data is lost. PNG is lossless and so is this output, so the conversion is a repackaging rather than a re-encode.
  • The result is a single-page TIFF. Multi-page TIFF, the kind fax and scanning systems produce, is a different structure and is not created here.
  • If your printer asked for CMYK, convert the colour space in your design application first. This tool outputs RGB.

How to Convert PNG to TIFF Online

Turning a PNG file into TIFF is straightforward here — upload, convert, download. What you gain with TIFF: lossless, print-quality output.

1
Upload your PNG file

Drag and drop your file into the upload area, click to browse your device, or paste a URL to a file hosted online. You can upload files up to 250 MB and batch convert up to 20 files at once.

2
Automatic conversion

Once uploaded, the conversion from PNG to TIFF starts automatically. The process runs entirely in an isolated environment - your data never leaves the secure pipeline.

3
Download your TIFF file

Your converted file is ready instantly. Click the download button to save it to your device. The file is deleted from memory immediately after download.

Private by design, not as an afterthought

Most online converters upload your files to a server, keep them for days, and may mine them for AI training or resale. PrivConvert was built the opposite way — around your privacy.

No account required

Convert instantly with no sign-up, no email and no profiling cookies. We never build a profile around you or the files you convert.

Works on any device

Runs in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS — no install, plugin or desktop software needed.

Fast in-memory processing

Each job runs in an isolated in-memory sandbox, so most conversions finish in seconds instead of waiting in a queue.

Nothing is stored

We never keep a copy. Once your TIFF is delivered, both the original and the result are gone — there is nothing left to leak or misuse.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I convert several PNGs at once?
Yes. Drop up to 20 PNG files into the upload area and each one is converted to TIFF in a single batch.
Is there a file size limit?
You can convert files up to 250 MB each. Because TIFF output is uncompressed, keep in mind that the result will be larger than the PNG you uploaded.
Is it private?
Yes. Conversion runs entirely in memory - your images are never written to disk, never stored and are deleted the moment your download is ready.
Why is the TIFF so much larger than my PNG?
Because it is uncompressed by design. PNG applies lossless compression; this TIFF stores raw pixel values. Print and archival workflows generally prefer that predictability over a smaller file.
Does the image lose any quality?
No. PNG is lossless and the TIFF output is uncompressed, so every pixel value is carried through unchanged. The conversion changes how the image is stored, not what it contains.
What happens to transparency?
It is flattened onto a white background. The TIFF written here is RGB with no alpha channel, so transparent areas become white. Composite your own background first if you need something else.
Can I get a CMYK TIFF for printing?
Not from this tool, which outputs RGB. Colour separation for print is a colour-managed step that belongs in your design software, where you can apply the correct ICC profile for the press.
