Years of mail, locked in one proprietary file

A .pst is where Outlook archives a mailbox: every message, every folder, sometimes a decade of correspondence in a single file that only Outlook reliably opens. The moment you need that mail anywhere else - a new mail client, a legal review, a migration away from Exchange, or just one crucial thread from an ex-employee’s archive - the format becomes the obstacle.

This unpacks it into the universal format instead: one standard .eml file per message, in the original folder structure, delivered as a ZIP. The message bytes are passed through untouched, so headers, timestamps, Hebrew or any other charset, inline images and attachments arrive exactly as they were stored. Individual messages can then go onward through EML to PDF for a court file or EML to HTML for quick reading.

Nothing here should be uploaded carelessly

A mail archive is the most sensitive single file most people will ever handle: contracts, passwords, medical letters, the entire paper trail of a working life. Uploading it to a converter that stores files on disk means a copy of all of that sitting under someone else’s retention policy. That is the scenario this site exists to prevent: the PST is parsed inside a sandboxed process with no network access, entirely in memory, never written to disk, and deleted the moment your download is delivered. Nothing about the messages is logged.

The extraction is hardened against hostile archives too: folder names from inside the file are sanitised before they become ZIP paths, and hard caps on message count and extracted size mean a malformed PST cannot expand into an unbounded response.

Also useful alongside

Single Outlook messages saved as .msg convert directly via MSG to EML or MSG to PDF; Unix mailboxes go through MBOX to PDF. CRM-logged email and the rest of the corporate export landscape are mapped in the CRM & ERP exports guide. On the API this conversion runs at /api/convert/pst-to-eml, async jobs included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I get back?
A ZIP archive of standard .eml files, one per message, organised in the same folder structure as the mailbox (Inbox, Sent Items and so on). Each .eml is the original RFC 822 message - headers, body and attachments untouched - so any mail client, Thunderbird, Apple Mail or an e-discovery tool opens it directly.
Are OST files supported too?
Yes. The offline cache file Outlook keeps (.ost) uses the same internal format and converts the same way, which is often the rescue path when the original mailbox is gone and only the cached copy remains.
Are message contents re-encoded?
No. Message bytes are passed through exactly as stored, so original charsets, Hebrew and other non-Latin subjects, inline images and attachments all survive. We do not parse or rewrite your mail.
What are the limits?
Files up to 250 MB, up to 5,000 messages, and up to 300 MB of extracted mail per archive. Larger archives should be split in Outlook (File, Account Settings, Data Files) before converting. Password-protected PSTs are not supported.
Why does the message count differ from what Outlook showed?
Calendar items, contacts and tasks are not email and are not exported; neither are items Outlook had marked deleted. What you get is the actual mail.
Do you keep the mailbox?
No, and for a mail archive this is the question that matters most. The PST is parsed inside a sandboxed process with no network access, entirely in memory on a server with swap disabled, and deleted the moment your download is delivered. Never written to disk, never logged, never retained.
