From columnar storage to a sheet someone can read

The request behind this tool is always the same: an analyst, a manager or an auditor needs to look at data that currently exists as a .parquet in a bucket, and the person being asked does not want to stand up a notebook to produce a spreadsheet. Drop the file here instead. Every column arrives typed - numbers as numbers, timestamps in ISO form, booleans real - so filters and pivot tables work immediately.

Excel’s own 1,048,576-row ceiling is the one hard boundary; longer files belong in Parquet to CSV, which goes to five million rows. Nested columns are serialised as JSON in their cells rather than dropped, so the workbook remains a faithful view of the data.

In memory, capped, and gone on delivery

Parquet exports come from production systems, which makes them exactly the files that should never rest on a converter’s disk. This one is read entirely in memory and deleted the moment your download is delivered. Hard caps on rows, columns and output size keep a hostile file from expanding without bound, and text cells carry the standard formula-injection neutralisation, so a string from your data cannot execute in the workbook.

For scheduled exports, the API runs this at /api/convert/parquet-to-xlsx with async jobs and signed webhooks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big a Parquet file can become a workbook?
Excel itself caps a sheet at 1,048,576 rows, and that is the binding limit here. Files up to 250 MB and 2,000 columns are accepted; anything longer than the Excel row ceiling should go to Parquet to CSV instead, which handles up to five million rows.
How are the column types rendered?
Numbers arrive as real numeric cells, booleans as true/false, timestamps and dates in ISO form, decimals exact. Nested columns - lists, structs, maps - are serialised as JSON in their cell, so nothing is silently dropped.
Is non-English text preserved?
Yes. Parquet strings are UTF-8 and the workbook stores them as Unicode, so Hebrew, Chinese, Arabic and accented text arrive intact. Verified with a multilingual test file on every release.
Can a string from the data execute as a formula in Excel?
No. Text cells beginning with a formula trigger character are neutralised to stay literal, the same guard as every data tool here. Production exports contain user-generated strings, which is exactly when this matters.
Do you keep the file?
No. Read in memory, converted in memory, deleted on delivery. Nothing is written to disk or logged.
